In 2014 I took a paddlewheel trip with my mom on the Columbia River. It was a week long excursion from Astoria up to Clarkston. Along the way we had a naturalist, Ian, who would give these incredible lectures about Lewis and Clark and the expedition to the Pacific. Every lecture was packed with excerpts from diaries, routes painted on maps, paintings, pictures, etc. It was so interesting. But what really brought the expedition to life was the passion that Ian put into every word of his presentation.
One evening I sat with him for dinner and we talked about his presentation style. What made it so good? And he told me. He said every lecture he gives has to answer one basic question. Who cares?
Or put a different way, why should someone care about this?
Truthfully I hate
