Rick Steves on the value of travel

In this Ted talk, Rick Steves talks about the value of travel.

I couldn't agree more.  Who I am is a result of the places I've been and the experiences I've had. The people I've met have broadened my view of the world and the problems we all face as humans.  Consider for a moment that the things we share in common with each other will always outweigh the differences.  As a summer project I'll be blogging about some of my experiences including:

  • Handing out booze and dynamite to Bolivian miners
  • Staring a lion square in the eye in Tanzania, and being taught by a Masai Warrior how to kill a lion with nothing more than a spear and a cape
  • Visiting the smelliest place on earth, a Tannery in Fez, Morocco
  • Being covered in shaving cream in Sucre, Bolivia during carnival
  • Almost becoming a child slave in Guatemala
  • Alaska, need I say more?
  • And many other thrilling tales!

So look for that this summer, but in the meantime, pick a spot on a map and plan a trip.

Wash your hands and tie your shoes, better.

Who would have thought there is a better way to wash your hands and tie your shoes?  I guess it's important to realize that just because you've been doing something one way your whole life, it doesn't mean you've been doing it the best way your whole life.  Or to paraphrase Vince Lombardi "Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect."

Casting for some Agora time!

Hello friends!

It'll be spring before you know it, and that means warmer weather for shooting outside.  I've got a project that I'm pretty excited about and looking to jump into this year.  I've been calling it the Agora project, and as you can guess, it's shot at the Agora statues downtown.

What I'm looking for is people who are interested in standing out from a crowd.  If the Agora represents a crowd of people with no individual characteristics, then I want to showcase people who break free from that norm in visual ways.  Dancers, soccer players, bubble artists, whatever you have to offer, I'm interested.

Here are the details:

  • All shoots happen in the morning around Sunrise.  Through trial and error I've found it's the best time to shoot.
  • The shoot is TFP.  After the shoot is completed, I'll select the best work and send you digital copies for personal use.  If you need gas money, or you're bringing something perishable to the shoot that is a primary element of the images, I will happily kick in some money to make it happen.
  • The goal of the project is to have a gallery showing hopefully in 2014, but more likely in 2015.
  • No Jerks.

If you are interested or have additional questions, feel free to fill out the contact form to the right.

Below you'll find an example of the work I've already shot.  If you like what you see, I really hope you'll consider being a part of the project.  Or, if you know anyone who may be interested, please forward them this link.  Thanks!
