Zion is a National Park that I have barely seen, but it is one of the places for which I have the most reverence. I’ve had a terrible fear of heights that dates back to when I was a small child and I first felt the St Louis Arch swaying back and forth as I looked out the window over St Louis. I’ve carried that with me my whole life, and occasionally I am able to push my fears down when I have my camera with me (example, snakes…). Something about having my camera gives me the courage to push past my fears since I may get rewarded with a great photo. Zion pushed that limit. I had gotten several recommendations about the Angels Landing Hike, which takes you over a narrow bridge of rock to the summit you see pictured. I was terrified when we started our hike, but I persisted, hanging on to an old guide chain for dear life. And we were rewarded with this overlook. One of the most beautiful spots in the world.
Zion is a park I long to go back to. To hike The Narrows, and return to Angels Landing, to further explore and to document.
