I experienced Iceland (and mostly Reykjavic) at a particularly weird point in my life. I had just ended a long term relationship and was in a general melancholy state. On one of the first days visiting the Blue Lagoon, I was soaking in the thermal bath. It was late fall, so chilly air met the warmth of the pool to create a dense fog all around. I remember slowly swimming around hearing quiet conversations happening all around but unable to focus on any in particular, and unable to see anyone speaking. I thought “this must be what purgatory feels like”. I realize that’s not the type of review that makes you jump out of your seat wanting to visit the Blue Lagoon, but following that thought I was able to quiet my brain and just… relax. Push all the worries and extraneous thought out and focus on the moment. And the rest of the trip was filled with excitement and wonder.
Five years later I would return to Iceland with my partner Lindsey, so if you’re interested in seeing what a different headspace and 5 years experience translates to, click here.
