In September 2021, after months of inactivity due to a global pandemic, my partner Lindsey and I embarked on a 16 day road trip around Iceland’s famed Ring Road. We put together our wishlist and worked with Hidden Iceland to put together our itinerary. Honestly it was the perfect trip to satisfy our wanderlust. We started with two days in Reykjavik and then immediately took off to the southern coast heading anti-clockwise around the island. We were greeted with beautiful sunny days, gale force wind days, snow days, sleet days, the aurora borealis, early mornings, late nights, successes, failures, excitement, and relaxation. I’ll always with fondness remember those 16 days. Iceland is a beautiful country and it was really an honor to be a guest amongst such a raw landscape.
Interestingly, I was also visiting Iceland in 2016 on a much shorter timetable. So its fun for me to look back on those photos to see bits of growth as a photographer. If you’re interested in making your own judgments about that, click here. In particular it’s interesting to see the difference in my photos of Gullfoss, or “Golden Falls”. It reinforces why exploring a subject more than once is important, and to really know a place is to see it in different conditions. Hopefully I’ll have the opportunity to revisit soon.
